Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival at Leh
  • Altitude: 3505 meters / 11,567 feet above sea level

  • Meet file manager on arrival

  • Transfer to hotel and check-in

  • Half day rest for acclimatization

  • Evening drive to visit Shanti Stupa (Buddhist white-domed stupa built in 1991 by Japanese Bhikshu Gyomyo Nakamura)

  • Visit Leh Palace

  • Walk around local market in the evening

  • Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Leh
  • After breakfast, proceed for Leh local sightseeing:

    • Hall of Fame (commemorates Indian Army soldiers of Indo-Pak wars)

    • Kali Mata Temple

    • Spituk Gompa (11th century monastery)

    • Gurudwara Patthar Sahib (built in 1517 honoring Guru Nanak Dev)

    • Magnetic Hill (vehicles on neutral gear appear to defy gravity)

    • Visit confluence of Indus and Zanskar Rivers

  • Return to hotel

  • Dinner and overnight stay at hotel in Leh

  • Distance: 125 km, approx. 5-6 hours

  • Drive over Khardungla Pass (18,380 ft / 5550 meters), highest motorable pass in the world

  • Visit Deskit (capital of Nubra valley)

  • Explore Deskit Gompa and 106-ft statue of Maitreya Buddha

  • Drive to Hunder, visit sand dunes and see Bactrian camels

  • Option to ride double-hump camels (direct payment)

  • Dinner and overnight stay at camp/hotel in Nubra
  • Visit Turtuk, a border village recently opened for tourism

  • Learn about history and culture of Baltistan region

  • Scenic mountain and village views along the way

  • Return to Nubra Valley by evening

  • Overnight at camp/hotel in Nubra
  • Distance: 165 km, approx. 5-6 hours

  • Drive via Shayok River valley to Tang Tse and Spangmik (Pangong Lake)

  • Pangong Lake at 14,500 ft above sea level

  • Enjoy day at Pangong Lake

  • Dinner and overnight stay at camp

  • Distance: 160 km, approx. 4-5 hours

  • Drive via Chushul Village and Tsaga La Pass (15,200 ft)

  • Hanle: home to Indian Astronomical Observatory, known for stargazing

  • Local guest house or homestay stay

  • Overnight at Hanle
  • Visit Umlingla Pass (19,300 ft), highest motorable road in the world

  • 2-3 hours drive one way

  • Return to Hanle

  • Evening free to explore local village

  • Overnight at Hanle
  • Distance: 280 km, approx. 5-6 hours

  • Drive via Loma bend and Mahay

  • Visit Chumathang hot springs

  • Evening free at leisure

  • Overnight at Leh
  • Early breakfast

  • Transfer to airport for onward flight
